We moved to Oklahoma from Washington D.C., in May of 1989, as a result of my moving up the career ladder. We knew that we no longer wanted to live in an apartment, condo, neighborhood or subdivision. No more covenants, homeowners organizations or rules for us. Somewhere out in the country would be good. We eventually located a nice home on a bit more than fourteen acres about forty miles southeast of Oklahoma City. Just eight miles, twelve to fourteen minutes and two stop signs to the nearest town for necessities or lunch at the nearest eatery. It is seventy-eight miles, round trip, to work. That gives me forty-five minutes, each way, to wind-up on the way in or spool-down on the way home. We live so far out that we have satellite TV and 2-way satellite conection to the Internet - no cable service and cell phones are "kind of reliable" at best......

It is and has been home for since November, 1989

It is a 30 year old home. It is very well built: 2x6 stud walls and well insulated ; the roof rafters are covered with dimensional lumber as opposed to plywood or OSB. In the past several years, we've replaced all the windows with a gas filled double pane variety; had some gravel driveway repairs and improvements; had the roof stripped down to bare wood and re-papered and shingled; had a new heat pump and electric furnace installed; had the new siding added over the old dingy, dirty, deteriorating T-111 Cedar Siding. The next two and final maintenance jobs will be to (1) repair the retaining wall and (2) redesign and replace the deck.

8 White tail bucks wandered through on 12.29.08. This digital photo was shot through dirty double pane windows at a distance of about 60 feet. One can see the antlers on the one on the right and left, but you need to look real close to see them on the middle buck.
